Nagaur Sufi Music Festival, Nagaur, Rajasthan

Music from Heaven.......!

THE EXCEPTIONAL Musical and cultural tour, in the heart of Rajasthan, feel the voices connecting heaven by great Sufi singers and musicians.
Sufi Musical tour Rajasthan.
But this journey was fun and a connection was made, I love music but I am not an enthusiastic, I am a traveler I enjoy going places meeting people and enjoying different varieties of food like many of you.
Back in 2009, it was a normal day in office, I was checking my emails and there was this, an invitation to go for Sufi music festival in Nagaur – Rajasthan.

I was in Delhi, clicked the Idea, let’s use this so called festival a reason to create some interests in my friends, I created the great stories of this festival and Nagaur plus the food and nearby places and so on, finally few turned up to go along with me, now comes the best part- arrangements /itineraries.
Been many times to Rajasthan it was not difficult for me to arrange a car with driver, plus the best possible stay nearby Nagaur, places to visit, train reservations, route maps, what is where and why.
Journey starts here: The day came and the Journey started from Delhi Cant station, we boarded the train comfortably, unlike other Delhi stations this was a station of an old town, not much crowed and loved the winters with little fog.

Nagaur* birth place of Meera and Abul Fazal, Glorified by the bards, the history of Nagaur finds mention even in the Mahabharata. The kingdom of Ahichhatrapur which Arjun is said to have conquered and subsequently offered to his Guru Dronacharya, was perhaps some of the area of the Nagaur district, Charbhuja and Parsawanath Temple at Merta and the Dargah of Sufi Saint at Nagaur city.

Getting there : The nearest airport to reach Nagaur is Jodhpur (138 km), Nagaur is well connected to the state capital Jaipur by the Jaipur-Bikaner railway line, there are direct trains from Delhi too.
Staying :
The Royal experience at Khmiser Fort, the Heritage Hotel

This magnificent fort is literally off the beaten track. Set in the midst of sand dunes, this amazing fort stands as securely as it did over many centuries of battle and strife. The construction of the fort was begun in 1523 by Rao Karamsji, 8th son of the founder of Jodhpur Rao Jodha, who chose the spot of Khimsar, 90 km from Jodhpur where one brother resided and 150 km away from Bikaner, fiefdom of another brother.
Twenty one generations later, a part of this fort is still residence to the Karamsot Rathor direct lineage while the rest has been opened out to royal Rajput hospitality, personally overseen by the family, on a grand and elegant scale.

It was for good cause that it was awarded the 'Grand Heritage Award for Excellence' by the Tourism Board of the Government of India.
While Khimsar Fort borders the stark and arid Thar Desert, you are cocooned within the ramparts of this oasis of comfort with its 11 acres of lush lawns under the canopy of bright clear skies by day and brilliant unending stars by night.

Khimsar Sand Dunes, Khimsar

At the centre, a water body. In an 8 km circumference, the seven dunes of 'Akla'. At the heart of this oasis of sixty acres, adjoining the lake, the WelcomHeritage Khimsar Sand Dunes Village.
This village is a mere 6 km away from the WelcomHeritage Khimsar Fort (built in1523 by Rao Karamsji, founder of the line of Karamsot Rathors) and is accessible by jeep, camel but once there, all that is evident to the naked eye is rolling sand dunes in every direction.

The location of this remote and rural village, facing the water body, ensures total tranquility and peace with perhaps nothing but the sound of the sifting sands wafting on the desert winds, occasionally interrupted by the ducks, geese and wild birds that flock to the water body.
The savage beauty of the desert is constantly before you, be it in the harshness of the day, or as the glow of sunset envelopes the entire desert in orange hues or underneath a brilliant starlit night.
